DL: Peter, the Looking Back show at McLeavey's is an invitation to look at not only these photographs but also to reflect on photography over the last 50 years. Do you think the reception of photography in NZ has been any different from say Australia or Britain or America?

The Photography Department of the College of Design, Fine Arts and Music offered a free visiting photographer lecture. We were pleased to have the distinguished US photographer Kenneth Josephson speaking on his work.

A unique opportunity to spend three intensive days with renowned American conceptual photographer Lewis Baltz. Supported by international photographers Harvey Benge and Slavica Perkovic, this workshop will investigate contemporary photographic practice, (where the medium has come from and where it's going) and will provide the opportunity for participants to have constructive feedback on their own work.

I am an ex Wellingtonian studying at Westminster University. I am beginning research for a dissertation on New Zealand photography from the perspective of the immigrant/new or temporary residing artist/photographer and may stretch this to first born New Zealanders. I will begin with Ans Westra but would prefer to focus on contemporary photographers of a fine art training.

 

David Fergusson went to WWI and purchased an ICA IDEAL. Many years later his son brought the camera and photographs to the Centre.
