The Depot Artspace is a multi- disciplinary arts community running since 1996 and with facilities in both Devonport and Auckland city. We have regarded ourselves as part of a thriving national arts community which undertakes significant work to support the arts. It was a rude awakening to realise that a photographic centre as significant as the NZCP was in difficulty and that a body of photographic works, many of them iconic and part of our cultural heritage, was unable to find a home. It's a sad commentary on both the fragility of arts organisations which rely largely on voluntary commitment and goodwill and on the true nature of the arts scene, which has become fragmented by the demands placed on individual organisations. Three months since this 'notice of recess' and still no hard copy letter posted to membership. I assume there is no plan 'to establish a viable ongoing operation', and that things are winding up. How about an update.
