Due to financial constraints the Centre has reluctantly had to suspend services until further notice while plans are developed to establish a viable ongoing operation.
General enquires on photographic matters should be directed to your nearest museum, library or photographic society. National providers of historic photographic resources are the Alexander Turnbull Library, Archives New Zealand or the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. For enquires on contemporary issues including exhibitions, Photoforum, Photospace or McNamara Gallery may be able to assist. |

The Depot Artspace is a multi- disciplinary arts community running since 1996 and with facilities in both Devonport and Auckland city. We have regarded ourselves as part of a thriving national arts community which undertakes significant work to support the arts. It was a rude awakening to realise that a photographic centre as significant as the NZCP was in difficulty and that a body of photographic works, many of them iconic and part of our cultural heritage, was unable to find a home. It's a sad commentary on both the fragility of arts organisations which rely largely on voluntary commitment and goodwill and on the true nature of the arts scene, which has become fragmented by the demands placed on individual organisations. Still awaiting some more enlightening communication to the subscribership of the NZCP Journal and financial supporters of the NZCP. Refer to my blog posting on www.photographymatters.com

Three months since this 'notice of recess' and still no hard copy letter posted to membership. I assume there is no plan 'to establish a viable ongoing operation', and that things are winding up. How about an update.
